I am a fully-qualified teacher of English and Modern Foreign Languages for the 11-18 age range and have over twenty years’ experience preparing students for GCSE and A-level. I have also taught A-level Psychology and Creative Writing with very high success rates. Now working as a freelance private tutor, I am able to pass on my depth of knowledge and experience as well as my enthusiasm and love for my subjects to individual clients. I have in-depth knowledge of a range of learning difficulties and mental health problems affecting students’ progress, and have developed strategies to help them overcome these and achieve at the highest level. I have undertaken training with the National Autistic Society.
If you or someone you know is struggling to get the crucial grade 4 or 5 for their GCSE English which will enable them to progress onto the courses or get the job they dream of, I can help them to identify the problems that are holding them back and find solutions to them. My background in linguistics and psychology, as well as English, gives me the ability to quickly work out where the issues lie and how to resolve them, whether they be in understanding texts, grammar and punctuation, spelling, coherent written expression or presentation skills.
Private tutoring is also available for GCSE French, Spanish and German and for A-level French. Foreign languages can be challenging subjects, but they open many doors for future careers and are a gateway into a wider variety of university courses as well as being an excellent life skill. They also improve overall cognitive ability. Tutoring can help gain confidence in speaking and listening, widen vocabulary or improve understanding of grammar rules. I also offer conversational French, German or Spanish for adults.
A-levels can be a huge step up for many students, and this can cause anxiety as they worry they will not achieve the grades they need for their future plans. With twelve years as an A-level specialist, I am able to provide support and extra tuition in English Language, English Literature, French or Psychology, and study skills support for any other subject.
Before teaching in high schools and colleges, I taught English as a Foreign Language in a variety of settings. This, together with my knowledge of other languages, puts me in an ideal position to help speakers of other languages perfect their English, whether they be relative beginners or university students. Tuition is available for conversational English and pronunciation, reading comprehension or advanced academic English.
Private tutoring costs £25 per hour up to GCSE level, and £30 for A-level or above. When face-to-face tuition is not possible, I deliver high-quality lessons using video conferencing and shared documents; prices are reduced by £5/hour due to the lack of travelling time.
During school shutdowns, I am able to offer weekly 1:1 sessions to help students in KS3, 4 or 5 keep up with the work set by their school.
